Channel implant for orbital fracture repair

Richard C. Allen, MD, PhD, FACS

Length: 00:50

This is Richard Allen at the University of Iowa. This video demonstrates the use of the channel implant in a patient with an orbital floor fracture. These implants are useful when you do not have a posterior ledge on which to place the implant. The implant can be fixated to the inferior orbital rim with a bracket. A lateral canthotomy and inferior canthal lysis are performed. A transconjunctival incision is then made with the needle tip cautery. The floor fracture has been identified and the tissue has been released from it. The channel implant is then placed to check the fit. After the appropriately sized implant is fashioned, a 1.2 mm plate is place through the channel and bent to make a bracket. The plate can then the fixated to the inferior orbital rim to hold the implant into position
