Transcript

This is Richard Allen at the University of Iowa.

This video demonstrates an intranasal cyst in a patient with a congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO).

The middle turbinate is visualized. Inferiorly the inferior turbinate is demonstrated. Under the inferior turbinate, in the area of the inferior meatus, the cyst is noted. This signifies an obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. The suction is used to palpate the cyst. The cyst will be opened and decompressed. This is performed with the front-biting sinuscopy forceps. One can see the mucous on the forceps from the decompression of the cyst. Once the cyst is decompressed and opened, Crawford stents can be placed through the system to keep the opening patent. The stents are visualized under the inferior turbinate and will remain in place for four months.
