Cataract 15 Years After Iridocycletomy

Thomas A. Oetting, MS, MD; W.L.M. Alward, MD

This patient had an iris melanoma which was removed by Dr Lee Alward and after an amazing 15 years developed a cataract. She had 4-5 clock hours of missing iris and zonules which made the surgery tricky. She agreed to participate in the Ophthec model 311 study for the non-FDA-approved iris reconstruction intraocular lens.

She was doing really well until a few months ago when she began to develop some recurrent inflammation. This is controlled with steroid but we have had to also control her intraocular pressure from steroid response.
