Lid Margin laceration

Lid Margin laceration

Category(ies): Trauma
Contributor:Jordan M. Graff, MD and Lynn E. Fraterrigo, MD,

This patient suffered multiple facial lacerations in a motor vehicle crash. Full thickness lid margin lacerations like this require special care in order to avoid notching of the lid. Lamellar tarsal sutures should be used to restore the normal anatomy of the tarsus. Vertical mattress sutures in the lid margin will approximate the wound edges while providing slight wound eversion to avoid notching as the wound heals.
