*Dr. Caccamise has very generously shared his images of patients taken while operating during the "eye season" in rural India as well as those from his private practice during the 1960's and 1970's. Many of his images are significant for their historical perspective and for techniques and conditions seen in settings in undeveloped areas.

Lens tamponade of corneal defect

lens tamponade of corneal defect

This is the most unusual lens-tamponade
of a corneal defect. Keratomalacia of the central cornea led to a large defect. The cataractous lens moved forward to be a perfect tamponade (blockage) for the defect. In Photo 1, the lighting and contrast were adjusted to make the phenomenon more apparent. Photo 2 is the unadjusted view.
